The Percussive Approach is a music academy, featuring a personalized curriculum formulated to unlock your potential as a professional drum-set player, percussionist, and music producer.
The program includes: Private Lessons, Audition Prep, Virtual Courses, Instructional Videos, Play-along Tracks, Transcriptions, Sight Reading Exercises, Recording Projects, Compositional Exercises, Performances, etc..
Topics of study include: fundamentals, listening, energy control, time awareness, traditional and extended percussion techniques, stylistic versatility, improvisation, music-theory, music composition & arranging, sight-reading, drum chart interpretation, nuances of rock vs. jazz drumming, creative songwriting, utilizing DAWs, MIDI sequencing, analog recording and more.

Math's teaching career began at age seventeen, and has since acquired drum set students of all ages. He has been playing drums for 29 years, earned a BFA in Jazz Percussion from Northern Illinois University in 2012, and has studied with mentors including Ernie Adams, Steve Houghton (Indiana University), Rodrigo Villanueva, Greg Beyer, Robert Chappell, Kevin Bobo, Fareed Haque, and more.
A major aspect of Math's teaching style is “Music begat theory.” Connecting musically with people comes first, while theory and history follows. Another key topic is dance. Having been a professional and collegiate-level modern dance accompanist for over a decade, studying how and what makes people move and groove is what it's all about.
His educational program, The Percussive Approach, is made for drummers interested in music production. It has 3 main goals:
1) to spark creativity, growth, and musical development in the mind and body, to achieve mastery of on the drum set.
2) to explore what Percussion is, and discern all instruments and aspects within the percussive realm.
3) to show hands-on how it all relates and applies to music production and composition.
